The game between Wigan Athletic and Derby at the JJB Stadium has got a lot of people talking, the state of the pitch, Latics missed chances, the goal that wasn`t given, the poor Derby team but the two opinions that cut the most are the managers, Steve Bruce and Paul Jewell
Lets see what they said:
Latics boss Steve Bruce:
'The mentality was good, but it was never going to be easy.
'We made hard work of it and needed a break but once we got the first goal we were comfortable.
'It's going to be tense now for everyone down the bottom but thankfully I've got some experienced players here who've been down there before.'
On Paul Scharner who got the opening goal
'I have to put reins on Paul because you know what he is like'
'He wants to play right wing, left wing, centre-back and centre forward.
'That's his nature, but the one thing about him is that he has got a goal in him and it could be a vitally important one.'
On the state of the pitch
'It was a struggle for both sets of players because it's a big struggle on the pitch'
"I don't want to keep making excuses for it but it's not easy, and today it hindered us a bit. We've got some good players and we want to get it into the wide areas, especially with Valencia jumping around.'
'It's the worst pitch in the league by far, but that's the way it is.
'We have to dig it up in June, we can't dig it up now. We'll start from scratch, get right to the root of what the problem is, get the experts in and try and construct a new pitch.'
On Antonio Valencia
'That's the one thing he's got to improve on. He's an outstanding talent, only 22-years-old and I do believe he will get better.
'Of course you need your wide players to grab a goal, he's done that today. I'm very, very pleased for him.'
On the match
'It was a bit edgy to start with - it was always going to be with Paul coming back, but thankfully we've seen it through.
'We got a win which was vitally important and that's what it's all about now, it's about focusing everybody's attention on making sure we get the victories we need to try and keep us up.'
Derby boss Paul Jewell:
'I'm embarrassed at the way we played. I can accept losing but not like that, it was a disgrace.
'Some players are not worthy of being here and the sooner we can get them out the better.
'We've got to do some wheeling and dealing to get this team back in the Premier League.'
There you have it the words of the bosses, honest and fair?
