Latics star Granqvist to Stoke

Latics star Granqvist to Stoke

Wigan Athletic and Sweden international centre back Andreas Granqvist is set to join Championship leaders Stoke City on loan until the end of the season.

Granqvist started the season well forming a good partnership alongside Titus Bramble but suffered from being exposed during the long losing spell that saw the end of the Chris Hutchings regime at the Latics.

New Latics boss Steve Bruce has overlooked Granqvist and with Paul Scharner and Emerson Boyce showing good form and Titus Bramble in the wings Granqvist is limited to bench appearances.

The signing of Erik Hagen has pushed Granqvist further down the pecking order and the chance to play regular football is too much for the big Swede to turn down

Stoke are playing well and their manager, Tony Pullis, is looking to strengthen his sides challenge to gain automatic promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season

Thought Granqvist started the season very well but faded badly after about half a dozen games getting caught out for speed and positioning. A loan spell at a winning side could do him a world of good

We'll have him. He'll be on the bench though I imagine.

Have you got a feeder club agreement with Stoke?
