Erik makes instant Actim impact

Wigan Athletic defender Erik Edman enjoyed a debut to remember after claiming a place in the team of the week in The Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the Barclays Premier League.

Edman was one of the week`s top-scoring defenders with 27 points, also shading team-mates Paul Scharner (24 points) and Wilson Palacios (20) in the 2-0 defeat of rock-bottom Derby.

Emile Heskey top-scored for the Latics, earning 29 points for his performance but Titus Bramble remains Steve Bruce`s top-ranked player in 65th position overall.

Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is the other Wigan player in the top 100, sitting in 95th place overall, the 13th-ranked goalkeeper in the Actim Index.

The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player`s contribution be it goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, assists, clean sheets, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team with marks deducted for red and yellow cards.
