Scharner sets new Wigan record
Paul Scharner set a new Wigan Athletic club appearance record on Saturday in the game against Birmingham City at the JJB
The game was Scharners 73rd appearance in Latics colours in the Premier League (he`s made 79 in all competitions) and he took the record off Leighton Baines who was sold to Everton last summer.
The madcap Austrian joined the Latics from SK Brann of Norway in January 2006 and scored on his debut, the 1st leg of the Carling Cup semi-final against Arsenal at the JJB.
Scharner is both eccentric and controversial but he is an excellent defender and pivotal member of Latics first team and he has been instrumental in the up turn in form since the arrival of Steve Bruce to the club.
So congratulations to Paul Scharner and well done on reaching a landmark but there is still some way to go to pass Kevin Langleys 317 league appearances for the club.
Here are the top 5 Premier League appearances for Wigan Athletic:
Paul Scharner 73
Leighton Baines 72
Kevin Kilbane 61
Lee McCulloch 59
Chris Kirkland 57
