Wigan Crowds - Whelan gets misquoted

Wigan Crowds - Whelan gets misquoted

Some local newspapers and indeed some fans sites that should know better have gone for the sensational headline 'Does the town deserve a Premier League team?` off the back of an interview with the Wigan Athletic Chairman Dave Whelan.

Following what was a sensational result last night at Chelsea and with Premier League all but guaranteed for another season the towns newspapers should be rejoicing instead of printing drivel to create sensational headlines.

The Wigan Observer carried the interview with Mr Whelan and they have the audio of it on their web site for all to listen to; at no point does Dave Whelan say that the town doesn`t deserve a Premier League club.

What he does say is that he is disappointed that only 18,000 turned up for the Birmingham game and he does say that he is prepared to give Steve Bruce money to bring in players.

It is extremely disappointing to find the local rag (yep that`s you Oby) and some fans sites putting out this stuff on a day when we should all be celebrating, lets get behind the team and lets get the town buzzing with what we have in place.

All the frenzy over the size of gates at the Latics is bad enough when the nationals are doing it but when the locals and so called supporter web sites have a dig as well and miss quote the chairman along the way it makes you wonder what the motives are.

The gates will come, the fan base is increasing after a rapid rise its now growing at a more steady pace, this was shown in a Vital Wigan article early this season, an article that somehow ended up in the Wigan Observer? So they should know that attendances are growing.

We had a good start to the season and it appears we are going to have a good end so please lets get behind the club and stop all this crowds rubbish.
