Taylor Steps in to Melchiot Gap

Wigan Athletic skipper Mario Melchiot will miss the rest of the season following a torn abductor muscle in last weekends game against Reading leaving Ryan Taylor the chance to start in his favoured position of right back beginning with tomorrows game at Aston Villa.

Taylors appearances this season have been mainly on the left side of midfield and although he has filled the role manfully and always given 100%, he isnt left sided and neither is he a midfield player.

With Taylor reverting to the defence it should also mean a starting place for Latics own enigma Jason Koumas, undoubtedly talented but questions must be asked regarding his commitment.

Although the skipper will be missed tomorrow Taylor is an able deputy and the balance of the side will not be effected.

Good player is Taylor and with him being in his natural position Mario may not be missed too much
