Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce declared himself a Fulham supporter for this Saturday as the West London side prepare to entertain Bruces former club Birmingham City.
The scenario goes if Fulham beat, or draw with Birmingham then the Latics are safe regardless of their result against Aston Villa and that means that Bruce may well have one eye looking at the scores from Craven Cottage as his team take on Villa
Birmingham, the club that Bruce left in November to take up the reigns at the JJB have a terrible away record and recently lost at the JJB 2-0 and then got hammered at local rivals Aston Villa 5-1 on their last away day.
Fulham have strung some decent results together recently and last weeks 2-3 win at Manchester City could just well be the performance that spurs them onto thinking that it isn`t too little too late and a win tomorrow would see them overtake Birmingham and possibly go level on points with Reading and Bolton and get out the bottom three.
Bruce said:
'Fulham can't catch us now and you've got to make sure that whoever employs you, there's a different three at the bottom,'
'After my allegiance with Birmingham, I wouldn't want that for them, but if Fulham win, we're safe regardless of any other results, so come on you Fulham!
'You always look for people to do you a favour every now and again, but you've still got to get the points yourself so the focus is on us getting the points.'
A win for Fulham wouldn`t only make Latics safe but it would set up a fascinating last day of the season with the possibility of five clubs battling to avoid the last two remaining places in the relegation zone.
