Paul Scharner Scoops Player of the Season Award

At the Wigan Athletic player of the season dinner last night Latics madcap Austrian defender Paul Scharner was named as the clubs Player of the Season for 2007/08

The defender beat Kevin Kilbane and Mario Melchiot to the title and he looked a little surprised as he stepped up to receive his award.

Other winners on the night were Chris Kirkland who won the media player of the season and the players player of the season awards and Antonio Valencia was voted Young Player of the Season

Golden Boot - Marcus Bent

Michael Millett Award - Jon Routledge

Young Player of the Year - Antonio Valencia

Media Player of the Season - Chris Kirkland

Performance of the Season - LATICS v Blackburn

Outstanding Contribution - Emmerson Boyce

Players' Player of the Season - Chris Kirkland

Goal of the Season - Antoine Sibierski (v Chelsea)

Player of the Year - Paul Scharner

A fantastic night at the JJB and one that will me added to my diary for future years, with a couple of surprises in the awards it made for an interesting evening
