Sibierski on todays game, Latics and his future

Wigan Athletic striker Antoine Sibierski has been interviewed by the French magazine L'equipe in the run up to todays game with Manchester United, with Chelseas chance of winning this years title depending on the result in Wigan the eyes of the football world have been on the JJB this week.

With conspiracy theories abound and sentences that include the word integrity in almost every piece written about the Latics Sibs wants to set the record straight.

Lets see what he had to say:

How have Wigan players been affected by rumours surrounding the team last week?

I find it hard to understand. How can people think that players from Wigan will ease off? For what reason? We want to beat Manchester United, because they are one of the best teams in Europe at the moment. We want to show that we did not stay up this season by luck; we're capable of doing a result against such a team.

Everyone`s talking about you?

It makes us a little smile. When I hear Michael Ballack (Chelsea player) said: 'I hope the players Wigan are not already on vacation.' We are professionals!

It is a match which will be followed everywhere in the world. It will be important not to be ridiculous. We will be facing some of the best players in Europe. These are matches that everybody wants to play. Some will want to show what they are capable of.

Wigan, already saved, so you can play without pressure ...

Yes, it's true. The pressure, it is on Fulham, Reading, Birmingham (to fight against relegation) today, so it is a party here.

From a personal point of view, you play less these days ...

That is true. I started strong, then I picked up some injuries, I came back from them and there was a change of coach (Steve Bruce has replaced Chris Hutchings).

The coach then used me as a joker coming off the bench late on in games and it worked pretty well because I was decisive. The coach then said: 'it will be the role of Antoine this year.'

Today I play a lot less. I am going on as a sub and I get 30 minutes, sometimes 10. But I have enough experience for me not to depressed by this. Sometimes it is better to make fun out of 20, 30 minutes to get bored on 90.

You have one year contract with Wigan. What do you do?

I will take a full reflection on my future Monday, once the season ended. I feel capable of playing another two years. Then I stop. But even if I feel good to Wigan, where I am very happy I do not want to finish in two years without playing.

If there are opportunities, I will listen to my agent. The coach wants me to keep. I thought about it. But I want to be happy first. '

Well there you are, translated via my 'Welcome to Paris' phrase book, so Sibs is happy but wants to be playing more regular, looks like he could well be off in the summer.

Sibs has been superb this season and very affective when coming off the bench, but its understandable that he wants regular first team football at his stage of career

given his run of injuries this season he couldnt really complain about his lack of first team opportunities. I think he will move on in the summer
