95% of voters on the last poll on Vital Wigan stated that 2007/08 was a good season for the Latics with us finishing strongly and attaining 14th spot leaving the large majority happy
The Latics started off the season brightly and indeed went top after 3 games with victories over Middlesbrough and Sunderland but then it was all down hill
Chris Hutchings got sacked and Steve Bruce was brought in midway through November and suddenly we looked a different side, we got some belief and organisation, we also got our first point for what seemed like an eternity with a 1-1 draw at the JJB against Manchester City
False dawn? We got battered over the border in Horwich and everyone was depressed, then Brucie brought a little ray of sunshine - Wilson Palacios and with Scharner reverting to centre back we started to look like a football team again
The last four months of the season has seen Latics perform like a top 8 side and thats where weve been in the form table, the future looks bright, Bruce has got a good team of backroom staff with him and we have the basis of a cracking little side.
What the poll asked - Was it a good season for the Latics
How you voted - Yes 95%, No 5%
Current Poll - Whilst we are talking about Steve Bruce`s influence, do you believe he is the man to take the club to 'the next level` and accomplish what we all want, a team challenging for something in the Premier League
Bruce appears to be positive of his chances of attracting high calibre players to the club and so long as Dave Whelan backs him I`m sure that he will do, we need the fans to start turning up every week and filling the place to create atmospheres like the one against United, this will then make the JJB an attractive proposition for top class players to come to
So with a cracking finish to the season and an air of optimism about the place - 'Is Steve Bruce the man to take the club to the next level?`
