Latics to play in Merseyside Masters

After reaching the final of the Manchester Masters last June Wigan Athletic have found themselves too hot to handle for the Mancs and have been placed in the Merseyside heat alongside Liverpool, Everton and Tranmere Rovers.

The Latics are sending a strong squad of ex-Latics players to the tournament that takes place at Liverpool Echo Arena on Saturday 28th June and they are strongly fancied to do well once again.

The Latics will line up with Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins replacing Simon Farnworth in goal and former European Cup winner Alan Kennedy will be lining up in the blue of Wigan rather than the red of Liverpool

The full Latics squad is:

Nigel Adkins, John Doolan, Alan Kennedy, Pat McGibbon, Peter Atherton, Neil Redfearn, David Lowe, Andy Lyons and Colin Greenall

Also featuring in the tournament are ex Latics men Ged Brannan and Peter Beagrie who will be turning out for Tranmere and Everton respectively.

Always like watching these former stars and there is always a surprise or two, John Doolan last year for us was simply awesome
