Palacios Scores as Honduras Progress in World Cup

Wigan Athletic midfield dynamo Wilson Palacios scored in his countries 2-2 draw in their World Cup 2010 qualifier against Puerto Rico last night, a result that will send the Hondurans through to the next round.

David Suazo opened the scoring on 22 minutes only for the Puerto Ricans to equalise nine minutes later and then take the lead 5 minutes before half time with goals from Christopher Megaloudis and Petter Villegas (31 and 40 minutes).

Wilson Palacios struck the equaliser on 52 minutes and this result, following the catrachos 4-0 drubbing of Puerto Rica last week, sends Honduras onto the next step towards South Africa 2010.

Latics Maynor Figueroa played 71 minutes before being replaced by Osman Chavez whilst there was no place in the squad for Hendry Thomas, maybe he is injured?

Congratulations to our 2nd favourite national team and we look forward to seeing the Hondurans at the World Cup Finals

Before this game Honduras had chalked up 9 straight victories, thats a bit of good form

Agreed worbo, Honduras had beaten, quite handsomely, the likes of Mexico, Colombia, before this quite unexpected meltdown vs Puerto Rico. Though we're through to the next round, there is a very bad taste in the mouths of many Hondurans.

Oh, and as to Hendry Thomas: he is competing in my view with Palacios for a spot. The Honduran mid-field is pretty stacked at the moment. the only player I see him perhaps taking the spot of in the future, is aging but class team captain, Amado Guevara. We'll see....
