'If It's Football, It's Vital'

My Latics Fantasy Team 2008/09

Name: worbo

My manager: Steve Bruce

His management team will be: Eric Black, Frank Barlow, Keith Bertschin, Nigel Spink and Ray Mathias.

Player of the Year will be: Wilson Palacios

Top Scorer: Amr Zaki with 27 goals

Newcomer of the Year: Amr Zaki

We will finish:

In the English Premier League: 5th and qualify for the UEFA cup

In the FA Cup: lose Semi Final (vs Arsenal)

In the Carling Cup: lose 4th Round (vs Blackburn)

This is how I will shape my squad.

Players to be released for free or top £100,000 (2-3):
Julius Aghahowa, Carlo Nash, Solomon Olembe.

Players I will sell (3-4):
Antoine Sibierski (£1.5m to Norwich), Henri Camara (£1m to anyone that will have him), Andreas Granqvist (£1m) and Emile Heskey (£4.5m to Villa)

Players I will buy:
Amr Zaki, John Mensah, Hendry Thomas, David Suazo, Maynor Figueroa

My Squad: (20 plus goalkeepers)
Kirkland, Pollitt, Horn, Taylor, Melchiot, Scharner, Boyce, Mensah, Bramble, Figueroa, Edman, Kilbane, Koumas, Palacios, Thomas, Brown, Valencia, King, Suazo, Zaki.

We will be playing: Attacking football, especially at home and scoring goals will be made a priority. With Palacios, Koumas and Valencia in the midfield there is very much a need to have a disciplined defensive midfield player in there, that`s why Brown will have an important role in my team

My Latics team will play: 4-4-2

My starting XI for the season will be:

Kirkland - Melchiot, Mensah, Scharner, Figueroa - Valencia, Palacios, Brown, Koumas - Suazo, Zaki.

My Subs: Pollitt, Boyce, Thomas, King, Kilbane.

Comment: Although this is my fantasy Latics team for next season, I have tried to keep my feet on the floor and resist the temptation of putting Ronaldo et al in there and keep it as realistic as possible.

I would love us to keep the basis of the team from last season and build on this. I have sold Emile Heskey to Aston Villa to fund some of the transfers, although Heskey is awesome, he was injured for the best part of last season and I got a good price for him.

Once Edman recovers from his injury I would foresee him forcing his way back into the side at left back with Figueroa dropping to the bench and Kilbane dropping out of the squad.

I have kept my squad down to 20 with young reserve keeper Tim Horn in there because I know Mr Whelan likes us running a tight ship
