A quick flick through the Sunday papers and a browse of the news sites on the internet and it becomes clear that Wigan Athletic are being linked with every player on the planet, lets take a look some of the rumours
Olivier Kapo the Birmingham attacking midfield player is heavily rumoured to be joining us and this has been in the news outlets for weeks now, well the strong rumour that came my way this weekend is that the deal is done and will be made official next week…don`t hold your breath, not the best source but been right before.
Amr Zaki, will, according to the paper of all knowledge the Wigan Evening Post, be unveiled this week at the JJB.
Now we are the site that first broke the news of the Zaki transfer to the Latics sometime last century and we also have our very own spies in Egypt, we can confirm that Zaki WILL be a Wiganer by Wednesday…again don`t hold your breath but this is what I have been told.
Daniël de Ridder another of Steve Bruces old signings for Birmingham has been heavily linked with a move to the JJB with most sources reporting a free transfer, this is unlikely as De Ridder is on a 3 year deal at Brum so we would be expected to pay a fee for the 24 year old winger.
Considering De Ridder hardly made an impact at St. Andrews and we already have 5 wide players at the club this is likely to be pure speculation.
Andy Johnson was being linked with an £8 million bid by the Latics earlier this week, Johnsons manager David Moyes has stated that the Everton and England striker is not for sale, Johnson has also publicly said that he doesn`t want to come to the JJB and if we are looking for a 7 goals a season striker then we already have one in Heskey, this one is a none starter.
Dave Kitson the Reading striker is, according to many news reports, the subject of a £3 million pound bid by ourselves, Newcastle United and West Ham.
Now I have always been a fan of Kitson and I think he would do a job for us but he has spent the past 18 months suffering with injuries, could be a risk, but a risk worth taking in my opinion.
Salvador Cabanas the Paraguayan International centre forward, currently playing for Club America in Mexico and the current South America player of the year, nicknamed the bull, strong quick and can score goals, he is also Blackburn Rovers` Roque Santa Cruz` best buddy, sounds ok to me, apparently the deal is done and he is expected to be unveiled next week.
According to all the rumours and speculation the JJB press office and medical team are set to be very busy this coming week, lots of medicals to sort out and lots of new signings to announce, then again.
