7-Up Sparkle at the Latics

Wigan Athletic have promoted SEVEN youth players and given them professional contracts and all seven signed on the dotted line without hesitation at the JJB today.

The players are:

Luke Ashworth - Centre-half and at 6` 3" he is a commanding figure, Youth team player of the season

Lewis Field - Right back, recovered from a broken leg last season showing commitment and determination

Matty Hampson - Latics mad winger. Scored 14 goals in 28 appearances for the youth team (his dad sits behind me in the East Stand)

Joe Holt - Centre midfield been at the club since he was 11

Craig Mahon - Young Irishman and high scoring forward, 25 goals in 33 starts, nephew of former Latics player Alan Mahon

Andrew Pearson - Centre-half, Andrew suffered a cruciate ligament injury that will keep him out until October at least but impressed enough to be offered a contract

Jon Routledge - Centre midfield and former Youth team player of the season

Latics boss Steve Bruce is enthused by this current crop and told the official site:

"They all have a chance to prove themselves. They have the potential to develop but it is up to them to show they have what it takes"

Nice one lads and welcome to the club, officially

Agree lathamlatic we do need experienced players signing but at least with some youngsters being given pro contracts it sends out a signeal to over young uns that we are a club where they have a chance to break through and we may just pick up a gem

Its good to see that you are still trying to promote the youth through.

I agree with you worbo. It is fantastic news that youth players are doing so well. We arn't just a club that just buy players we grow them from young ages. Which makes us brillaint as a club. I'm new to vitalfotball for the past few months. But im starting to respect you worbo alot you seem to make allot of sense

A winger that scores a lot of goals, heh. I smell a new Real Madrid saga in 5-6 years. JK.
