Andreas Granqvist leaves Latics

Wigan Athletic and Sweden defender Andreas Granqvist has left the Latics and moved to Holland where he`s joined Eredivisie club Groningen for a fee believed to be around £600,000

Granqvist joined the Latics from Helsingborgs in January 2007 before making the move permanent last summer.

Following a good start to the season the big Swede appeared to be caught out by the pace of the Premier League and when Steve Bruce was appointed Latics boss last November Granqvist lost his place in the side.

On leaving the JJB for his new venture in Holland where he has been given a four year contract Granqvist said:

'I see Groningen as a club where I can develop myself'

'I haven't played a lot at Wigan Athletic and it was very important for me to choose a club which plays the football I like to play.

'I am a player who likes to start attacks from the defence and not only use the long ball. I am still young and want to become better.'

Good luck Andreas at your new club
