Wigan Athletic target Amr Zaki is going to the World Governing body FIFA in an attempt to leave his current club Zamalek
It was widely accepted that the Egypt international would join the Latics on a season long loan with the view to a permanent deal next year but some shenanigans by the Zamalek chairman, Mamdouh Abbas, appears to have put paid to Zaki ending up at the JJB, for the time being at least.
Last week it was alleged that Zaki and Abbas were almost at blows during a meeting to try and sort out the move to the Latics leaving a very sour taste to this whole deal.
Zaki and his agent Nader Shawki are both claiming that Zamalek have not paid Zaki since last November and therefore are in breach of contract with the player so they unsuccessfully appealed to the Egyptian FA to get his contract terminated.
After failing with the appeal to the EFA Zaki and Shawki have now turned to FIFA in a bid to get the contract of Zaki with Zamalek terminated.
Shawki told Egyptian football news site FilGoal.com:
'I cannot understand how they (Egyptian FA) came out to that decision, FIFA rules state that a player has the right to annul his contract if the club failed to fulfil its terms
'That`s why I have already started contacting FIFA and I am sure we will win the case.'
'It is impossible to negotiate with Abbas after he insulted us in his office'
"Right now we are focused on terminating Amr's contract with Zamalek rather than keeping the Wigan option alive.'
The last statement could be a definite signal that the transfer to the Latics is now dead and could be the reason Steve Bruce is reported to be looking at other targets.
Zamalek have signed Junior Agogo from Nottingham Forest who is reported to be Zakis replacement at the Egyptian club
Meanwhile, EFA vice-chairman Ahmed Shobeir said that Zaki will be subjected to disciplinary action if he did not comply with the association's decisions.
This saga will run and run no doubt for a few more weeks yet, for all the latest news on Amr Zaki and his proposed move to the Latics and all other comings and goings at the JJB stay tuned to Vital Wigan folks
