Latics Best Ever Winger

Latics Best Ever Winger

Vital Wigan is currently running the 'Latics Best Ever` series and we are now up to the best ever winger to have played for Wigan Athletic and there have been many greats down the years.

My own personal favourite is Izidro Diaz; the little Spaniard was a breath of fresh air when he arrived at the Latics part of the three amigos with his mates Roberto Martinez and Jesus Seba

Diaz`s pace and skill was in abundance in a side that suddenly went from relegation challengers to would be Champions, standing just over 5 feet tall in his socks Izzy may have been small but he was a giant in stature on that rightwing and in our Championship winning season he must have created a fair number of Graeme Jones` record breaking 33 for the season

There are other candidates, Antonio Valencia, David Thompson and who could forget the legend that is Gary Teale.
Vote in the poll and lets see who Latics best ever winger was

The poll is available for all to vote on and can be found on the right side of this page, if your favourite is missing please let me know and I will add them to the poll.

Diaz was part of the change in the club that went from strugglers to winners

Diaz was great - like you say it was a bit of a turning point with him, Bob and Seba - but I can't vote for anyone but Andy Lids.

I nearly didnt put Lids in there, I was going to put him in the forwards, I dont think he was an out and out winger though various managers used him there, always felt that Lids played better in the hole

I can understand what you're saying - but you'd always have Lids in the all-time team - and you wouldn't want him having to complete with Barlow or Jones.

There is also David Lowe who started out his Latics career as a winger then progressed to a forward but again not an out and out centre forward in the Jones or Heskey mould, any hows Lowe is going in the forward category
