Antonio Valencia so happy at Wigan

Wigan Athletic and Ecuador wide midfield player Antonio Valencia is having an extended holiday due to his international commitments since the season ended but this is leaving him home sick for Wigan

Valencia is at the moment back home in Ecuador but says he would much sooner be back 'home` in Wigan and back in preseason training with the Latics.

The 22 year old told Sky Sports:

"I love the town, the people and the culture, I am really missing Wigan and if the club asked me to cut short my holiday and return for training I would jump on a plane immediately"

Valencia spoke about his hopes for the coming season and how he believes that the Latics will be a force to be reckoned with he said:

"We must aim for 5th spot this season, why not, we finished the previous season strong and we now need to build on this.

"The Aston Villa game was an important one, we played really well and looked very good especially in the second half and this was a game that was important to Villa also as they were chasing a UEFA Cup place, but we won easily in the end"

Valencia scored both goals in that game as Latics won 2-0 at Villa Park at the beginning of May, a result which ensured Premier League status for a fourth consecutive season

Valencia is right, the club now need to aim high and build on what we have, we are a strong side and just a goal scorer short of being a top side.

We`ll leave the last word to Antonio:

"I am enjoying England and I love Wigan and the people"

We should sign him on another contract with improved terms. If we want to build as a team
