The rumour mill has been in full swing this week at Wigan Athletic and although no one actually signed on the dotted line we did have someone through the incoming doors and just as quickly through the exit doors, lets take a look at whats been going on:
Hendry Thomas arrived in the country last weekend expecting it to be a formality that he would become a Latics player after a £1.5 million transfer fee had been agreed with his club Olimpia of Honduras, unfortunately he was wrong.
Someone at the club forgot to check the criteria for players gaining work permits from non-EU countries and poor old Henry has had to board a plane back to Honduras with his transfer collapsing.
Andy Johnson continues to be linked with a big money move to the JJB but now we have competition from two London clubs Fulham and West Ham with the Hammers having made the largest bid of £11 million.
Despite publicly stating that he wants to stay in the North West it is understood that privately Johnson wants a return to London and thus making West Ham and Fulham favourites for the Everton strikers signature, good in my opinion.
Dickson Etuhu the Sunderland and former Preston, Norwich and Manchester City midfielder was linked with a £2 million move to the JJB, all there is to say on this one is no thanks.
Etuhu was awful at Deepdale in the Championship and out of his depth at the Stadium of Light in a team at the bottom end of the Premier League, not a chance of this one coming off.
Steve Davis the Fulham and Northern Ireland midfield man has been priced out of a move to Glasgow Rangers where he spent a successful six-month loan spell last season.
Fulhams valuation of £4 million may have put off the Scottish giants but its reported that ourselves and Blackburn Rovers are interested in the former Aston Villa player with Rovers the favourites for his signature.
Lee Cattermole is another midfield player linked this week with the Latics being reported by several sources has having made a £3.5 million bid for the Middlesbrough and England U 21 youngster.
Cattermole would be a good signing; he is young, aggressive, talented and for a twenty year old quite experienced with over 50 Premier League appearances for Boro.
Lets hope that there is some truth in this one.
Olivier Kapo is a player that seems to have been linked with a move to the JJB for an age and apparently through this age Olympic Marseille have stepped in and offered the Birmingham attacking midfield man an alternative to Lancashire this winter.
Kapo was expected to put pen to paper last Wednesday on a move to Wigan but with the Latics and Brum unable to agree on the fee, Latics wanted cash plus players Brum just cash, Marseille have stepped in with a cash only offer that is acceptable to Birmingham, ah well somethings are just not meant to be.
Fredrik Stoor £1.5m-rated defender from Norwegian club Rosenborg and Sweden international is still being linked with a move to the Premier League with a host of clubs, Latics, Fulham, Blackburn, City and Boro amongst those reportedly interested.
And finally the longest running transfer saga in the world looks like coming to an end this Tuesday when Amr Zaki will arrive in Wigan to have a medical ahead of his year long loan deal with the Latics.
There is a definite buzz about this player and if all is to believed then we will have a gem on our hands, lets hope so its taken long enough to get him.
