Vital Wigan is currently running the 'Latics Best Ever` series and we are now up to the best ever forward to have played for Wigan Athletic and there have been many greats down the years.
My own personal favourite, after much deliberation is the one and only, the legendary Graeme Jones, but only just.
Jonesy gets my vote for his bulldozing one man show during our Division Three Championship winning season when he was simply magnificent.
Jones was an old fashioned centre forward, to score a goal he`d go through a brick wall, for all those who haven`t seen him play he`d be best described as a poor mans Alan Shearer but with more 'heart`.
Very close on my fav`s list are Bobby Campbell, David Lowe, Stuart Barlow and of course another legend Peter Houghton but I had to choose one.
Perhaps the most legendary of all Latics forwards, Harry Lyon, is missing from the list, I wanted to keep it to league players and to be honest no one could compete with Harry, legend has it in a cup tie against Doncaster Rovers Lyons was carried off with a broken ankle, no subs allowed in those days, Latics 2-0 down Harry hits the whisky, gets his ankle strapped comes back on, scores a hat-trick and Latics win 3-2.
The poll is available for all to vote on and can be found on the right side of this page.
