A Wigan Welcome for Dutch Ace

Wigan Athletic new signing Daniel De Ridder says he has been very impressed by the professionalism shown by the current squad at the Latics and he also says that they have made him very welcome at the club

With regards to the preseason training schedule De Ridder told the clubs official web site:

"I thought it was meant to be summertime, we have had double sessions every day, its been tough physical workouts"

"The lads in the squad are very fit and I have been ok also, fitness is a massive part of sport at this level and the shape of the squad is excellent"

"Though I must say I am looking forward to doing some more ball work!"

De Ridder went on to say that he couldn`t turn down Steve Bruce when he approached him about joining the Latics, he said:

"When someone of Steve Bruces stature comes knocking you say, where do I sign"

'I want to be competing for a place in the team, I know it will be tough because the midfield here is full of quality, but that`s the Premier League you are going to get the best and you need two players competing for every position"

The Holland Under 21 international told how he`d spoken to Mario Melchiot about the club and the fans before he signed:

"I have spoken to Mario about the club and the fans, he says they made him feel so welcome last season and will respect the players who give their all for the team"

"That suits me perfectly"

Welcome on board Daniel
