Wigan Athletic sign Olivier Kapo

Wigan Athletic have signed Olivier Kapo from Birmingham City on a three year deal for £3.5 million following the succesful completition of his medical linking the Frenchman back up with his former boss Steve Bruce.

Latics boss Steve Bruce signed Kapo a year ago when he was manager of Birmingham bringing the attacking midfield man to England from Italian side Juventus.

Kapo has played must of his football in his native France, starring for Auxerre over a five year period where he made 119 appearances scoring 19 goals, although he spent 3 years signed with Juventus, Kapo only made 14 starts for the Serie A giants and spent two spells on loan at Monaco and Levante.

Whilst in France on loan at Monaco in 2005/06, Kapo enjoyed a successful time scoring 5 goals in 25 matches; this was followed by a spell on loan at Spanish side Levante for the 2006/07 season where he again scored 5 goals this time in 32 appearances.

Following his move to Birmingham Kapo made 26 appearances for the Blues scoring, yes you guessed it 5 goals.

Kapo is Bruces second summer signing following Daniel De Ridders arrival from Birmingham two weeks ago and the squad is slowly taking shape in readiness for the coming season.

Welcome on board Olivier

Olivier Kapo...lets see if he can keep his 5 goals a season record running

Good signing for Wigan I think. Kapo, Valencia and Palacios in the midfield - one decent midfield there! - Leicester Fan

Looks a good player, you'll need him.

Look's a good player? He's dreadful. 5 goals a season from a striker?
NDH
He's more a midfielder than a striker. Hoping Zaki (if he signs) will get us the goals.
robin
No he plays as a attacking midfielder playing just under the striker. If he was any good would Birmingham have sold him for just £3.5 million.
NDH
He's not as bad as you make out NDH.
robin
It's a question of what SB and Wigan can get out of him, I think.
wotcha
Why is there nothing about his signing on the official site?
robin
Because of a visa/agent is arrested/Birmingham want more money at the last minute/meteor hits player* kind of problem *delete as appropriate
yams
I don't know
robin
he may score goals, but if it wasn't for Brown we would not be that good in defense.
