Chris Kirkland Latics Best Ever Keeper

Chris Kirkland Latics Best Ever Keeper

Vital Wigan pollsters have put current Wigan Athletic keeper Chris Kirkland as the best ever at the club gaining twice as many votes as second placed John Filan.

The former Liverpool, West Brom and Coventry keeper initially joined the Latics on loan from Liverpool but it was soon clear that he was something special and then manager Paul Jewell acted quickly to get the big shot stopper signed permanently in a £2.5 million deal.

Kirkie was immense last season and won lots of accolades at the clubs player of the year awards with chairman Dave Whelan claiming that Kirkie is the best keeper in Europe, few would disagree.

For the record - Chris Kirkland 53%, John Filan 21%, Mike Pollitt 8%

Well done Kirkie

We are now looking for the 'best ever` Latics manager and there are a few for you to choose from in our poll with representatives from down the years.

The poll is available for all to vote on and can be found on the right side of this page.

"with chairman Dave Whelan claiming that Kirkie is the best keeper in Europe, few would disagree"................... I'm sorry, but unless by few, you mean anyone who's not a Wigan supporter, then you are sorely mistaken. He's not even England's number 1 and we didn't even qualify for the Euro's!! Dave Whelan is easily one of the biggest idiots in the footballing world. His opinion means as much as David Pleat's.

Maybe not best in Europe, but his performances for us are one of the chief reasons we survived last season. I personally never saw him make a mistake (though admittedly that is a more limited sample than some). I didn't see a better English keeper last season.

Fair enough, but that's like saying "I didn't see a better murder than that all year"! English goal keeping is on it's arse at the moment. As an England fan I hope Kirkland does go on to become a world beater. But at the moment, I find it very hard to agree with Mr Whelan's comments.

QPR v Latics - Big Game Preview

Another massive game for the Latics, QPR are a team that traditionally we don't do too well against, just two wins in 15 encounters, one of those coming in W12 though so we do have previous there even if it was a while ago.

A win tonight would lift us out of the bottom three and put us just three points behind Aston Villa in 17th, the incentive is there, we need to start taking opportunities are there won't be any more left.

It's likely that Warren Joyce will start with the same si
