Derby to land Wigan Athletics Marlon King

The BBC are reporting that former Wigan Athletic boss Paul Jewell has been back to his old club in a bid to negotiate a deal to take striker Marlon King to Pride Park on a year long loan

King only joined the Latics in January from Championship club Watford for what was reportedly a £4 million fee, but he has failed to settle and scored just one goal which was a penalty against Blackburn Rovers

With Egypt striker Amr Zaki joining the JJB side and talk of Evertons Andy Johnson also moving down the East Lancs Road to the Latics, boss Steve Bruce may be willing to deal on this

The BBC say that the deal is very close to happening and it may well just be waiting for Kings signature as the player has been on extended leave due to playing World Cup qualifiers for Jamaica during the off season

Good player but just not happened for him at the Latics

With Zaki and possibly Johnson coming in, Derby can have him and he's a championship striker, not prem.

Was never going to be a success. I'd be very wary about this Zaki. Johnson would probably be a good signing for you as he'd be the star in the team once again, like he was at Palace and in his first season at Everton. Surprised you didn't go for Bent to bolster numbers. He ended up your top scorer as well last season didn't he?

I wouldn't pay 9 mill for AJ. In fact, I wouldn't pay that much. Bent tried very hard, and deserves credit and our thanks, but even he would admit that his scoring record was a bit flattering.

And another thing. SB can pack the team with all the midfielders he can lay hands on, but unless he gets at least one more top class striker with Hesk, he's wasting his time. But he knows that, I'm sure.

I wouldn't pay £9mil for AJ either. But I'd certainly take £9mil for him. Yes, Bent's goalscoring record is flattering but I wouldn't pin all your hopes on this Zaki. I don't know how much you've paid for him but he went to Lokomotiv Moscow and didn't even play a game! Maybe he's suited to warmer climates because not playing a game even though he wasn't injured says that something was clearly not right. It could have been all to do with the club, but it could have been a lack of ability. After all, I can't see the Egyptian league being any better standard than League 1 or 2.

Keep King and sign AJ for £10m, with them 2 + Zaki and Heskey we have 4 quality strikers and strong back-up!

'I wouldn't pin all your hopes on this Zaki.' He's not even signed yet, though Sky say that he is actually now in England! And there would be no payment other than a loan fee, precisely because SB doesn't put too many hopes on Zaki. Prem experience is worth a lot, and there aren't too many targets of that sort available. Everyone's chasing the same few people.

if Derby pay 5 mil send him packing. Not good for the Latics. He would be ideal 2 seasons ago, but now we are a level above and we are very strong in midfield, defense, world class goal keeper and an Alex Ferguson successor as a coach. Only the attack lets us down. Invest 10 mill in a top top class striker and we are in Europe. AJ ain't even good for the championship. Search SB, there is another Zaki somewhere.

I suspect his deal will hinge on the Johnsons deal We have lost Aga and Bent and now possibly King and Sibs yet only have Zaki and Johnson who are talked about I would feel alot better if we snared another 2 scorers before letting the majority of our strike force go
