Zaki signing postponed again

Zaki signing postponed again

When I heard the news today that Zaki wouldn't be signing until after the weekend's game agaisnt Ahly next Sunday, the first thing I did was check the calender in case it was January and not July.

The reason? this deal is rapidly turning into a pantomine farce. There have been more twists and turns than a downhill slalom and still it hasn't come to fruition.

There are already calls for the deal to be scrapped with the view that Zamelek are messing WIgan about in the hope that we will give up attempting to sign what appears to be their best player.

Whilst I can sympathise with these calls, I believe that it is important that we exercise a little more patience in the hope that he will actually sign next week.

Amr Zaki is evidently a class forward with a good goal scoring record , something that we are sadly lacking. We are struggling to attract forwards to the club at present and of the four that we currently have, three are strongly linked with a move away. Zaki actually wants to play for us and there is nothing to stop us looking elswhere whilst still pursuing Amr.

This is another blow but not the end of the world. We have been patient for two and a half months surely another weeks wait won't hurt.

To be honest, to whomever wrote the article, I really do appreciate the sentiments you're trying to emphasise, but I think we've been very patient. The only justice would be for the deal to come off.... I got home, looking forward to seeing Zaki signed and postponed. Just goes on and on. Looks like we're gonna miss out on Johnson and Owen too. I see a dark cloud looming. Sorry to be pessimistic as I'm not usually, but unless we get more quality up front we're gonna really struggle.

I wrote it Robin and whilst I share your concerns re lack of quality up front to withdraw now would undo all the work we have done. Zaki is a class act and just what we need. Give it another week and we will be sorted. If not then there is nothing to stop us looking elsewhere

Sorry baskers just me sounding off mate. Guess I was just a little irritated with the news we had to wait another week. I fully agree with all you've said. Yeah we can look elsewhere but we're starting to run out of time but as you said mate we've still got the time so we might as well make the most of it.

Guys, Amr Zaky's official website (www.amrzaky.com) says he officially signed to Wigan and the contracts were faxed to Wigan. El Zamalek website says Zaki extended his contract as part of the deal to let him go to Wigan for the loan. What I know for sure is he asked to play Sunday's game (the derby against Ahly) but that doesn't mean they haven't signed. Anyways, I have watched Zaky for the last three years and he is definitely worth the wait. He is by far the best striker in Africa right now.

Thanks for that masree82. I'm sure you will forgive us being a little sceptical until he runs out on the pitch in a Latics kit. After all last week his agent said that there was a press conference today to announce the deal and now it is off. Doenst look good does it?
