Scharner Extends Wigan Contract

Wigan Athletic defender Paul Scharner has ended speculation about his future by penning a two year extension to his current deal that still had a year to run.

Scharner, with his Austrian wit, revealed that the fans have been a major reason for his staying at the JJB, he told the clubs official site:

"The Wigan fans, they have been different class, that`s what you say in England isn`t it?"

"I am really happy at Wigan and I think the team is moving forwards"

Scharner is full of ambition and dedication as a player and he sees the same in Latics boss Steve Bruce, Scharner said:

"I have never hidden my ambition as a player. That is what has been driving me forwards all my career. I believe that in order to progress you have to be totally dedicated to what you do"

"I feel that the club has really progressed over the last few months. They got the opportunity to appoint a really top coach and that`s what happened when Steve arrived"

"Now I feel the club has another opportunity to really progress this season and I want to be a part of that"

"It is fantastic that we have managed to keep hold of the best performers in the team this summer and to bring in some real quality acquisitions. Now we all need to move forward together in the future and I am very happy to say I will be here to enjoy the ride"

Scharner could turn out to be Bruces best signing this summer

Good to hear Herr Scharner is signed up for another couple of years

Sure. Odd that we hear nothing about his injury, though.
