Cotterill Swaps Latics for Blades

Wigan Athletic and Wales wide midfield player David Cotterill has signed for Championship club Sheffield United for an undisclosed sum.

The 20 year old joined the Latics from Bristol City 2 years ago but didnt live up to his potential at the JJB and spent 3 months last season on loan at Bramall Lane.

Cotterill played 18 games for the Latics in the Premier League scoring a super goal away at West Ham two seasons ago, Latics boss Steve Bruce told the clubs official web site:

"Cotts is clearly a talented player who could have a big future in the game"

"He became a full international while still a teenager and he feels he would be better suited playing regular first team football at this stage of his career"

"Sheffield United made us a good offer, too good to turn down. We wish him all the best in the future"

Cotterill played at Barnsley on Tuesday for the Latics and set up Michael Browns goal it was his last contribution as a Latics player.

All the best from Vital Wigan, very talented player maybe the change of club will do him good

So thats Olembe, Aghahowa, Webster, Granqvist, Skoko and Cotterill gone with Zaki, Kapo, DeRidder and Cattermole in...nothing changes we still have to balance the books

Nice article on your page about Cotterill. He did well at Bramall Lane, & whilst he has obvious holes in his game, Blackwell will sort that out. I've no doubt he has great future potential.

Aye gloucblade I think you might have just got yourselves a little gem there

To be fair worbo with the exception of perhaps Skoko I wouldn't want to see any of those that have left anywhere near the first team anyway! No point paying million pounds of wages to the deadwood.

I think that cotterill has a big future ahead of him but he won't get the first team chances while here. To bad though i quite liked him
