Wigan - Kirkland, Scharner and Cattermole injured

Wigan Athletic are sweating on three players conditions as the new season approaches with Chris Kirkland, Paul Scharner and Lee Cattermole all giving cause for concern.

Manager Steve Bruce revealed that Chris Kirkland hurt his back, again, whilst on the clubs preseason tour of Austria, Bruce told the Wigan Evening Post:

'Kirky hurt his back while we were on tour, that is a bit of a concern to us"

Scharner was carried off in last weeks game at Barnsley following a heavy fall on his ankle, Bruce continued:

'We've also got Paul Scharner injured at the moment. He twisted his ankle in the Barnsley game but at the moment we don't think it is too severe.

'We'll probably know more about Scharner this week."

As for Lee Cattermole, who took a knock in Saturdays game at Sheffield Wednesday, Bruce commented:

'Lee Cattermole also twisted his ankle at Sheffield but we think he'll be okay, it's not a bad one, thankfully.'

Lets hope that all three will be fit and available for the first game at West Ham, they are all vital members of the Latics squad and we need them in the team
