Matt Jackson calls it a day

Former Wigan Athletic club captain Matt Jackson has decided to call it a day and hang up his boots for the last time and announced his retirement from playing professional football.

Matt played for 10 clubs in a career that lasted 18 years and started at Luton Town and ironically ending at Luton`s rivals Watford.

In between Matt enjoyed success as an FA Cup winner with Everton in 1995, he was voted Norwich City player of the season for 1997-98 and won promotion with the Latics twice in 2003 and 2005.

Jacko left the Latics at the end of the 2006-07 season to move to Watford, in his time at the JJB Matt played a total of 167 games scoring 4 goals.

Jackson was the club captain at Wigan as previously said and he carried the captaincy like a badge of honour, Jacko would always have time to talk to fans and sign autographs he is a true gentleman.

All the best on your retirement Jacko from all at Vital Wigan and good luck for what ever you decide to do in the future
