Honduras Lose toItaly in Opening Game of Olympics

Wigan Athletic target Hendry Thomas played for the Honduras Olympic side today as they lost 3-0 to Italy in QINHUANGDAO, China

The Italians went ahead after 41 minutes through Sebastian Giovonco with a 30 yarder that ended up in the top corner, 4 minutes later the referee awarded Italy a penalty for handball.

Giuseppe Rossi coolly slotted home to send the Italians in 2-0 ahead at the break.

The Italians were awarded their second penalty of the game when Robert Acquafresca was upended in the box, he got up, dusted himself down and converted from the spot to make it 3-0 to Italy.

Honduras should have pulled one back late in the game, but Carlos Pavon knocked a penalty kick over the bar.

Hendry Thomas was booked on 87 minutes

Honduras now need to beat Cameroon and South Korea, who drew 1-1, to have any hopes of progressing beyond the group stage of this years Olympic games football tournament
