Latics Geared-Up for West Ham

Latics Geared-Up for West Ham

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce feels that his side is on track to be ready for their opening game of the new season at West Ham a week tomorrow.

The Latics have been to an Austrian training camp, played three friendlies back in the UK over the past 10 days and now they travel to Holland for what will be the last game before the big kick-off.

Bruce is looking forward to the Dutch trip, the match against FC Utrecht and the test that it will provide his team.

Though his team will be without Amr Zaki and Antonio Valencia due to visa problems and Chris Kirkland, Paul Scharner and Lee Cattermole with injury concerns.

Bruce said:

'It will be a good test for us, hopefully we can get through it without any injuries and it's another game for the lads to build their fitness."

'The game in Holland, and the ones we've played in the past few weeks, are all about getting the squad geared towards the West Ham match.'

Just one week to go to the big kick-off, fingers crossed for a clean bill of health for the players from this weekends game

Wigan 1-2 Bradford Match Report

Latics dropped to a deserved 1-2 defeat at the hands of Bradford, our first loss at home in the league since March. It was an off-day, defence looked shaky from the off and once Nick Powell went off injured, we never really threatened to score. We are back at the DW on Tuesday against Doncaster Rovers, an opportunity to get back on track.

Paul Cook named an unchanged side from our last league game, with Michael Jacobs returning to the starting line-up.
