Heskey Will Play at West Ham - Bruce

Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce says that Latics and England front-man Emile Heskey will be fit for Saturdays opener at West Ham despite lasting just 20 minutes of yesterdays friendly at Dutch side FC Utrecht.

Bruce said:

'Emile jarred his leg and felt a twinge in his thigh'

'It looks like nothing more than a niggle, but I took him off as a precautionary measure."

'I'm not overly concerned about it.'

Heskey was replaced by Marlon King who at the moment looks to be going nowhere with his proposed move to Premier League new boys seemingly collapsed.

Latics won the game 2-0 with goals from new signing Daniel De Ridder and old warhorse Kevin Kilbane, that`s it now as far as the friendlies are concerned and the real stuff starts in just five days

Which is why the squad may need another striker. And cover for Scharner.
