'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Pre Season Pros and Cons

Pros.

1/ Amr Zaki... at last we have signed a striker who has pace and class. 2 goals in 2 games bodes well for the season. Wigan's patience in this protracted transfer deal will produce the goods.

2/ Mike Pollitt...showed once again that he is a more than able replacement for Kirkland. His double save at Utrecht was world class.

3/ Daniel De Ridder... a very skillful winger who will provide a balence for Valencia

4/ Maynor Figueroa... settled in well at left back and provided a more than adequate replacement for the injured Edman.

5/ The football... good passing game espicially the first half hour against Hibs debunking the 'ugly football' myth

Cons
1/ Injuries...to key players such as Kirkland and Scharner and support players such as Koumas and Taylor. The squad isn't the biggest and unless we buy in key positions we will struggle if the injuries come thick and fast.

2/ Strikers..with the exception of Heskey and Zaki we are still light on forwards.King isn't good enough, Sibs isn't fit enough and Camara is unpredictable. Another striker is needed but we seem to be linked with midfielders.

On balence a good pre season, hopefully the injuries will clear up and SB has a couple of other players in mind to bring in to bolster the squad, another centre defender and striker would be nice.

Pre season is about nothing more than team building and match fitness. As nice as it is to win matches there are no points at stake.
