Latics Vs Chelsea - What the bosses said

Following the game at the JJB between Wigan Athletic and Chelsea today Vital Wigan takes a look at the reaction of the two bosses Steve Bruce and Luiz Felipe Scolari, lets see what they had to say:

Latics boss Steve Bruce:

"We thought we deserved something out of that for sure. It's not often you play against a Chelsea team and apart from the goal - which is a wonder strike from Deco - after that they haven't really done much against us."

'As a team, we've worked our socks off to try and contain them, and who knows, with a little bit of luck, maybe if Kapo's shot had gone in the corner in the last couple of minutes, we'd have capped off a good display from us, because I think we deserved something out of the game."

'That's two games in a row now we've been one down after three minutes. From wonder-goals. Last week Dean Ashton smashed one in against us and this week, you can see why Deco's played at the highest level, he has that little bit of quality. But [it was] very, very disappointing to concede like that, but overall we were a match for them."

'With a little bit more luck, we could have got something out of the game.'

'I think we've strengthened, the proof is there for everyone to see, we've got strength in depth, that's for sure."

'However, the team towards the back end of the season last year put a hell of a run together, so I'm mindful of that too. It's okay having names on papers, we've got to get a few results and make sure that we are stronger and ready for the challenge. And I believe we are.'

Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari:

'The result was more important than how we played, it is difficult to play here against Wigan."

'They have a good squad and good organisation. They are athletic and they have power.'

I thought we were a little unlucky also

Fact remains you don't get any points for losing

thought wigan were twice the team we were..the only reason you lot did'nt score was because kapo did'nt start and also as valencia did not get enough of the ball..zaki,palacios and cattermole are players good enough to get you top 10..its not about luck..but about being incisive..wigan just need to be that..good luck..do'nt lose hope!!

I'll echo what essientric said - you played really well. Obviously I'm happy that the points went to Chelsea this time around but it could easily have been the other way. Lots of positives can be taken from this one for you.

Cheers guys...early days yet and I for one am looking forward to a good season

You've got the players to make it. Zaki looks a good investment and Cattermole looks very shrewd business. Also, Steve Bruce is a very talented manager. Hope to see you pushing for at least 10th at the end of the season.
