Daily Mirror

Manchester United face late competition from German giants Bayern Munich to sign Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham.

The Bulgarian striker's move from White Hart Lane is likely to be confirmed as soon as Spurs have wrapped up the purchase of Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.

But Pavlyuchenko's international team-mate Andrei Arshavin is unlikely to join him at Spurs as Zenit St Petersburg says the London club have failed to meet their asking price of £22m.

Tottenham are in the market for tough-tackling Portuguese defender Miguel Veloso, currently at Sporting Lisbon.

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is poised to make an audacious move for West Ham's England striker Dean Ashton after missing out on Blackburn's Roque Santa Cruz.

West Ham could make a late swoop for former Birmingham striker Walter Pandiani, who is at Spanish side Osasuna.

Tyrone Mears' Derby career looks finished after he jetted off for a trial at Marsaille without bothering to tell Rams manager Paul Jewell.

Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant is a target of Blackburn boss Paul Ince, who may try and seal a deal before Monday's deadline.

Chelsea's £32m deal for Robinho is in danger of collapse after he was ordered to train by Real Madrid when he was supposed to be in London sealing his transfer to the Blues.

Celtic want to sign Tottenham Hotspur's German midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent move.

The Times

Pablo Zabaleta claims he turned down Juventus to join Manchester City and his arrival could allow Croatia right-back Vedran Corluka to complete a switch to Tottenham.

Striker Louis Saha is likely to finalise a switch to Everton after being allowed to leave Manchester United on a free

Bolton are to sign Racing Santander striker Ebi Smolarek on a 12-month loan with a view to a permanent move.

Aston Villa could make a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Peguy Luyindula.

The Sun

Liverpool are closing in on signing £8m Espanyol midfielder Albert Riera, who was linked with rivals Everton.

Daily Mail

Tottenham are interested in Anderlecht defender Nicolas Pareja, who has just won an Olympic gold medal with Argentina.

Rangers midfielder Brahim Hemdani has turned down the chance to join Turkish side Kocaelispor.
