Brown Linked to Blades Return

Michael Brown, a virtual ever present in the Latics team last season ,who won plaudits from the fans for his committed tough tackling and uncompromising style is being linked in the press to a move across the pennines to Sheffield next week when the loan window opens next week.

Whilst there has been no confirmation that Brown is the player Kevin Blackwell is interested in signing, Brown demotion to the substitutes bench with Lee Catermole in pole position alongside Wilson Palacios is being used by the media as the rationale for the move.

Any such move would fly in the face of previous comments by Steve Bruce, who stated that he had only three central midfielders and was not looking to lose one.

Much has been made of our small squad of 21 recognised first teamers and we cannot surely afford to lose another one.

We are already down to three forwards nd three centre backs and any injuries could spark a crisis.

It is to be hoped that any move for Brown will be met with a firm rebuttal.
