Scharner Inspires Austrians to Victory

Wigan Athletic defender Paul Scharner played 90 minutes in Austrias 3:1 victory over France in group 7 of the European World Cup qualifiers.

Austria went ahead in the 8th minute with a Mexès own goal and doubled the lead in the 41st minute with a goal by Aufhauser

The French pulled a goal back in the second half when Sidney Govou scored but the Austrians restored their two goal advantage with a 72nd minute Ivanschitz penalty

Scharner was substituted in the 90th minute and got in some much needed match fitness, and he is expected to play in Wednesdays game against Lithuania who got a surprise 3:0 win away at Romania yesterday
