Warriors Made to move Game

Wigan Warriors home tie in the Rugby League end of season play-offs against Bradford Bulls has had to be moved because Wigan Athletic are due to play Sunderland at the JJB the following day

The pitch at the JJB received a lot of criticism last season and Latics chairman Dave Whelan spent heavily having it re-laid during the summer so it is understandable that the tenants wont be allowed to play the night before their landlords.

A message on the Warriors official website reads:

'Due to the non-availability of the JJB Stadium for Friday evening, September 12th, the Wigan Warriors home Play-Offs game against Bradford Bulls will now take place at another venue which is likely to be the Stobart Stadium in Widnes or the Halliwell-Jones Stadium in Warrington`

Wigan Warriors chairman Ian Lenagan is not a happy chappy and he had this to say:

"The players performed extremely well against St Helens on Friday night to earn a home game, strongly supported by the Wigan fans, and we are naturally disappointed that the JJB cannot be made available for our Play-Off game against the Bradford Bulls on Friday night".

"We have explored fully with the RFL the options of playing on Thursday or Sunday but neither is possible for competition integrity issues and we prefer to play on a North West ground of our choice".

"We are looking at all options to facilitate as many of our fans travelling on Friday since we would like to make the chosen venue as much a Wigan venue as possible.'

Don't see what the problem is, they've played on Friday nights before a football game on Saturday before without a fuss. It's not like the rugby ruin the pitch anyway...

There has been a lot of rain recently and it would cut up badly, two games in less than 24 hours and all the good work of the summer with the new pitch would have been wasted

I'm in no way a fan of the rugby but I don't think it's particularly fair on the Warriors. It's a play off game and ours is just a league game. Games are rescheduled for television so why not for other sporting events? comments like "All latics fans can say what they want just come back when u've won something or finished in the top half of the table!! Half ov them only go 4 watch coz its premiership" and references to us as "a half arsed football team" (quotes from a facebook group complaining on the topic) make me somewhat less sympathetic!!

Latics v QPR - Big Game Preview

An important game at the DW Stadium tomorrow for the Latics, Gary Caldwell will be hoping to banish the disappointment of conceding a 93 minute goal away at Forest last Saturday that saw a point slip away after coming from behind three times in the game.

QPR are in town, they aren't quite the multi-millionaires that they were the last time that we met, that was in the play off semi-final in 2014, but they do have a squad with lots of quality and will certainly pose a threat.
