Wigan Athletic defender Kevin Kilbane today made his 50th consecutive appearance in competitive matches for the Republic of Ireland in their World Cup qualifier against Montenegro

The game finished 0-0 though the Irish had a very strong penalty claim turned down, Kilbane once again played with his protective mask on and Irish manager Giovanni Trapattoni likens Killer to Italian left back Paulo Maldini
