Wigan Athletic - Leave Titus Alone
Wigan Athletic defender Titus Bramble may have conceded an own goal on Saturday but he stood out as a defender ready to put his body on the line for the cause
Bramble is an easy target for the critics because he doesn`t hide, his headed own goal against Sunderland didn`t have him cowering or ducking the crosses that followed, no the very next Sunderland corner it was Titus who got his head on the ball to head away.
At times Bramble can be a man mountain in the Latics defence, a giant of a bloke with a no nonsense approach, solid as a rock.
Latics boss Steve Bruce considers Bramble to have been unlucky on Saturday and admits that he gave a very good performance, Bruce told reporters:
"Something like that you can forgive because he went to try and clear the ball and it just came off the top of his head.
"We`ve all done it - I scored many own goals in my time. The main thing was Titus didn`t let it affect him.
"After that, I thought he was excellent, and that is why I`ve kept him.
"He played really well in the previous three games against Chelsea, Notts County and Hull and he`ll be okay after this.
"It`s a case of how you manage players in such circumstances.
'Sometimes Titus needs the stick, sometimes he needs an arm around the shoulders, and sometimes you need a little bit of time away from him.'
