Heskey says He's Going Nowhere

Wigan Athletic striker Emile Heskey insists he is staying put at the JJB despite the Latics receiving offers for him from both Aston Villa and this weekends opponents Tottenham Hotspur

Heskey told the press that Latics chairman Dave Whelan told him of the bids but also said that Whelan would reject them out of hand if Heskey wants to stay:

'He (Whelan) said he`d had offers for me but unless I tell him I want to leave, he won`t entertain anything. I have no intention of doing that.`

The 30 year old England man says he wants to stay and be a part of what`s happening at the Latics, he even had to convince Latics keeper Chris Kirkland that he was going nowhere, he said:

'Chris Kirkland sent me about 200 texts the other week when I was away with England asking if there was any truth I was leaving.

'I just told him, 'I'm with England, I'm going nowhere!'

'The manager [Steve Bruce] and chairman both spoke to me last month about the situation.

'These are good times to be at Wigan. We are moving forward - the chairman and manager have both stipulated we must move forward.

'Dave Whelan has put his money where his mouth is and really backed the manager, and now I think we are starting to reap the benefits.'

With Heskeys current contract due to expire in June I would expect, despite all their gesturing otherwise, that if he doesn`t sign a new one Heskey will be sold in January.

Heskey is a honest lad, if he was going he would say something like we'll have to see what happens. But he does need to sign a new contract before Jan, but like i've said before i think he will ive got a feeling.
