Bruce Acknowledges Latics Squad is too Small

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce remarked on the size of the Latics squad when Michael Brown had to withdraw from the Spurs game when his wife went in to labour.

Bruce told reporters when question about Browns absence:

'This kind of thing makes it a fantastic club to manage in some way, having to put two keepers on the bench'

'Nobody gives us a prayer and we`re two players short of a proper squad`

When we have two players missing and we cant fill the bench then you have to question if that`s right for a Premier League club.

The policy of one in one out and running on a shoe string will eventually backfire what will happen when we have 3 or 4 players injured and someone suspended as well, will Dave Whelan get a spot on the bench.

Its difficult to be critical when we have such a good first eleven and Bruce has done a fantastic job but looking at the bigger picture maybe Bruce speaking publicly about the size of the squad is his way of giving Dave Whelan a gentle nudge, lets hope so.

Wasn't it SB who said during the transfer window that he was happy with the squad?

We need one or two top quality players who can add to the squad, not squad members who you know are not first team quality.
