Bruce and Hughes Share a Bit of Previous

Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce isn`t the best of chums with his Manchester City counterpart and former Manchester United team-mate Mark Hughes

There is a bit of bad blood between the pair that goes back a couple of years to when Bruce was manager at Birmingham and Hughes was the manager of Wales.

Hughes approached Bruce to ask if he would let his assistant at the time Mark Bowen join the Wales set up as assistant boss to Hughes on a full time basis, Bruce refused but Bowen left anyway and a year later went with Hughes to Blackburn Rovers as the managerial team there.

Whilst at Blackburn Hughes also 'took` Wales midfield player Robbie Savage from Birmingham a deal that was also sour to Bruce and the Latics boss had this to say to reporters:

"We are not really pals although I have a mutual respect for him.

"I don`t think I have spoken to him for him years. The Mark Bowen issue tainted it a bit."
