Palacios in Form as Honduras Beat Canada

Wigan Athletic midfield man Wilson Palacios played a staring role in his countries 3-1 demolition of Canada in the Olympic Stadium in San Pedro Sula as Honduras went top of their World Cup qualifying group

Latics left back Maynor Figueroa also started the game and Hendry Thomas put in a great performance in the centre of midfield

Palacios had an assist in the opening goal surging through midfield then laying the ball on for Walter Martinez to bury home from 8 yards on 9 minutes.

Canada equalised on 54 minutes with a fluky Andrew Hainault goal after the ball rebounded off his knee, they all count though.

Honduras made their domination tell when Carlo Costly regained the lead for the catrachos with an absolute belter from 35 yards on 65 minutes before Latics very own, work permit permitting, Hendry Thomas scored the 3rd for Honduras with a diving header right at the death.

Maynor Figueroa, along with Palacios and Hendry played the full 90 minutes for Honduras yesterday

Honduras sit proudly on top of group 2 level on points with Mexico with 9 each, Honduras travel to Jamaica on Wednesday who beat Mexico 1-0 yesterday and their final group game is a home tie with the Mexicans on 19th November 2008, this will surely determine who the group 2 winners will be.

Well done Honduras do Jamaica next Wednesday and they must be in the driving seat to be group winners ahead of Mexico which would be a fantastic achievement
