'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Henri Camara Comes Under Attack

Wigan Athletic striker Henri Camara feared for his safety on Saturday following Senegal`s failure to qualify through the group stages of the 2010 World Cup after a 1-1 draw with Gambia

A late equaliser meant that Camara and his team mates including Sunderland striker El Hadji Diouf and Stoke City players Abdoulaye Faye, Salif Diao and Ibrahima Sonko would miss out on not only the World Cup finals but also The African Cup of Nations and this sent the crowd in Dakar into a frenzy.

The fans through bottles and bricks at the players and then broke down fences in an attempt to get onto the pitch, armed riot police had to escort the players to the dressing rooms.

Camara and his team mates stayed barricaded in the stadium for three hours then had to sneak out through a side exit as riots spilled onto the street of the countries capital city.

National team coach Lamine Ndiaye said:

'I know they won't be slow to sack me in order to calm everyone down.

'This is a complex country and if I talk about Saturday's events I risk getting done in.'

This has nothing to do with football as a sport. Camara is a great player. As a Man City fan I have reason to painfully know he has nothing to prove as a sportsman. This is where his club should step in -- with FIFA -- and keep him away from any further threats of this kind. Ask him whether he wants to go to the next nternational game? And back him all the way!
