Eric Black Speaks About The Decision That Cost

Wigan Athletic assistant boss Eric Black spoke about the decision by referee Alan Wiley in yesterdays game against Liverpool that ultimately cost the Latics the points.

With Latics winning 2-1 Wiley awarded Liverpool a dubious free kick on the edge of the Latics box, following a mix-up by Gerrard and Alonso over the taking of the free-kick Latics player Antonio Valencia was able to charge down the ball.

Not only did Wiley let Gerrard off the hook by giving the England midfield man a second chance to take the free-kick but he also booked Valencia stating that he had charged the ball before it had been kicked, clearly a very poor and wrong decision, Black told reporters:

"I think there were one or two things that went against us, certainly some bizarre decisions by the referee which I hope he takes another look at.

"The sending off was without doubt the changing of the game, I`m not saying we would have contained them and won the game but we wouldn`t have lost it"

Unbelevable, I've got a theory, when we go to the big boys or they come to us we normally play as good as them. But when the ref blows for a big or small tackle the player thinks ok we can't do this its psychological its in there head ok i can't do this. The big clubs have to luck because of these decisions. It gets in there head To many times have we and other clubs lose because of this. Everybody talks about respect to refs, but surely its gotta work both ways. How can refs get respect when they do desicions like these Pathetic thats what it is.
