DeRidder Pleased to Get Chance
Wigan Athletic midfield man Daniel DeRidder is pleased to have made his first start of the season in last Saturdays game against Liverpool at Anfield, he reckons patience finally paid off.
The Holland under 21 international was signed on a free transfer from relegated Birmingham City at the end of last season and he has made his appearances from the bench so far but he got his start last weekend, he told reporters:
'It was nice to play. I've had to be patient because the team has been doing well.
'I was training well, staying sharp and finally I got my chance.
'Hopefully I can go on like this and get the opportunity to impress even more.
'We played with three midfielders and two wingers at Liverpool, so I got my chance with Antonio Valencia playing inside.
'Antonio is out for the next game but I'm not really thinking about that at the moment.
'The Villa match is a big one for us. It should be a good game against a big team.
'I've got memories of playing against them for Birmingham before coming to Wigan.'
DeRidder says he is mighty impressed with the man of the moment Amr Zaki and his goal to game ratio, he said:
'Zaki is a very clinical finisher, that is what it is all about when you are a striker.
'It's fantastic for us the way he is playing.
'Now he has seven goals in the league which is a great ratio - we're not Manchester United, we don't get too many opportunities.
'Zaki is a great fighter as well, he puts his body up against defenders, makes it uneasy for them in the region of the ball.
'His style helped myself and Olivier Kapo be more creative against Liverpool.'
Nice one Dan, hopefully you should get another start on Sunday against Aston Villa
