Wigan v Aston Villa

Wigan v Aston Villa

Although I'm not gravely concerned by this particular result, I do think that it'd be good to get some more points on the board sooner rather than later, but as everyone knows, there are no easy games in the English Premier League.

Add to that Antonio Valencia is out and that is going to affect our wing, no doubt, so whose going to do all the staff he can do so majestically? Perhaps this is the chance for another one of the blue and white lads to shine.

Shine they'll need to as they welcome Martin O'Neill's Aston Villa to the JJB Stadium and the worrying stat is that Villa's away form is almost impeccable and if truth really be told, I can't see Wigan doing much against a team in this type of form.

That said, Villa do have their own worries. Gabby Agbonlahor is out probably for this fixture and there's a good chance John Carew may miss the game so Villa's attacking options may be made that bit more lightweight but it should be noted Emile Heskey is back for Wigan this weekend more than likely and his partnership with Zaki will cause a lot of problems.

The midfield is sparkling at the moment through its industry and yes I do believe we've been so unlucky in recent weeks with results working against us. My concern is the lack of goals from midfield - However, Kapo's noted for goals and I would favour him normally but Koumas also has a point to prove so its going to be interesting to see who graces midfield this weekend at the JJB Stadium.

For me, the defence should comprise of Mario Melchiot, Titus Bramble, Emmerson Boyce and Maynor Figueroa. For me, Paul Scharner's not quite ready as of yet. Emmerson is a rock and I may be proven wrong but Paul seems a bit off the boil and add to that his rumoured bust-up with Steve Bruce and I think Emmerson will make his presence this weekend.

prediction Wigan 1 Aston Villa 2

Sorry folks but I do believe a Villa victory is in the offing here but never despair as its only one game and we've been here before on the end of successive defeats and bounced back and hopefully the same will happen again but I'm not saying its going to be a certain defeat but on the day, I think Villa will emerge victors with Zaki once again expanding his reputation. One must remember Wigan's good record against Villa but I see a Villa victory here today.

Do you agree with Rob's prediction? Why not have your say on Vital Wigan about the big game on Sunday.

I hope we do get something but I see Villa nicking it. After that we have tough games but it'll be ups and downs all season and add to that our atrocious luck and that pretty much paints its own picture!

Well Rob I disagree with your perdiction, we are at home and even without Valencia I think we will be too strong for what looks like in all honesty a very ordinary Villa team, they played Thursday and beat Ajax and their fans are getting carried away with the victory, its not 1973, Ajax are rubbish these days, they'd be relegation candidates in the Prem. We were the better team at Anfield until we were ridiculously down to 10 men, a bit more luck this season and we would be now pushing for a top 4 spot...I was going for a 2-1 win for the Latics but I think we could go even better I'll now stick my neck out for 3-1 win to the mighty 'tics
