Black Positive on Edman Return

Wigan Athletic assistant boss Eric Black reckons long term casualty Erik Edman is set for a return to first team duties any time now with his rehabilitation nearing completion.

Edman was in fine form before injuring his knee ligaments clearing a ball in the defeat against Blackburn at Ewood Park last season and its been a long road to recovery for the Sweden international and former Spurs player but during the past ten months Edman has kept strong, Black told reporters:

'Erik is right on course as far as his recovery is concerned'

'I have never seen anyone quite so professional in their determination to recover from an injury.

'He has been diligent throughout his rehabilitation.

'It's been a difficult time for him, with a lot of lonely training sessions for the last six or seven months, doing boring repetitive exercises and stretches.

'But Erik has done that without complaining and deserves a lot of credit. Already he's done a bit of training with the main group and was moving fine in those sessions.

'What we've been doing is letting him train and then taking him out for four or five days to let things settle down.

'When he plays in the reserves all depends on how he does when he rejoins the squad again for more training sessions. I would imagine he'll be ready for the reserves quite soon.

'When he got the injury we said it would probably be late October when he was back, so we're not far off with that estimate.'

Well done Erik and you`ll be a welcome addition back in the squad
